How embracing Digital Marketing helped super charge my digital recruitment business

Take an impressionable four year old, sit him in front of the big screen to watch Star Wars and what do you get? Inspiration that lasts a lifetime. From watching my very first Star Wars movie my life changed dramatically; from the way I thought about things, to my dreams to what I thought was cool. The seed was sown. With regular watering (fixes of Star Wars movies) it grew.

Whilst other kids talked about entering traditional jobs, I knew I needed to follow the path less trodden. I was not destined for an ordinary desk job. If I could not be a Jedi warrior, I would have to carve out my own niche in a field possibly not yet invented.

The planets aligned in the right way for me with the invention of the Internet. At that time I entered the World Wide Web as a programmer.  Not as exciting or cool as the young Anakin Skywalker building and programming C3PO, but we all have to start somewhere.

To further my skills I spent some time working in technical support for the now long gone ISP Ozemail.

Those were the days.

In those days using a 28.8k modem was considered über cool. Just imagine what 28.8k would let you do today.

But my time came when the Internet opened its doors to infinite possibilities in the digital medium and marketing. Two perfect ingredients.

This was my cue. I had found my calling. Jedi warrior aspirations were shelved permanently. I would be a key player in the digital marketing frontier.

Linkedin was added to my orbit in 2004. It has been an excellent networking site and I have been an avid supporter and user of it, adding over 26,000+ first connections since its inception.

But Linkedin was only the beginning. Other networking sites opened up the door for further development and the magic happened once I was able to add and combine what was on offer.

Imagine Anakin Skywalker in the Jedi training camp, or if you are more traditional, a boy let loose in a sweets shop, and you begin to understand how I felt.

Traditional business pursuit blasted to oblivion with new frontier opportunities.

SEO, SEM, Content, Facebook, and Linkedin, helped shape my future.

The beauty about my digital recruitment agency business in Sydney is, it did not come about with me setting up a business model and following it, or asking people to give me their work: on the contrary. It came about with me learning what was available, and then advising others on how to use it.

This worked well for me since I have always been a firm believer the universe gives back what you put in. Put in a lot and reap rewards. Put in very little and suffer the consequences.

Karma.

And I was starting to reap rewards. My business was set up, my future in the digital universe secured.

With this approach my digital recruitment agency business grew into what it is today. And of course, my business would not be what it is without phone and Internet.
